AKA PALM OIL
AKA a call for ingredient honesty. Palm oil is hiding in plain sight. Lurking in your labels under 100s of confusing, science-y names like Palmitic Acid or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. At Pip & Nut we don’t think this is right. You shouldn’t need a degree to know what you’re putting in your basket (& body). Ingredient lists should be honest. Not sneaky. #AKAPalmOil is our way of spreading the word.
We want to help you give every label a closer look. Use our Palm Oil Checker below to find out if that suspicious sounding ingredient is also known as (AKA) palm oil.

Why does it matter?
Like us at Pip & Nut, you might want to avoid palm oil altogether, or you might just want to know it's there. This movement isn't about telling you what you can & can't buy - but making sure you have the full picture.
When brands use unclear, scientific-sounding names to disguise palm oil derivatives, they take away people’s ability to make informed decisions. That’s not right.
If it contains palm oil, it should say it does. Simply. Plainly. No funny business. Eventually, we'll be taking this movement to the top, calling for a permanent change that means brands will have to declare if they've used palm oil. Watch this space.

Showing shoppers that tasty spreads are better without palm oil. That was one of the main reasons Pip started making her own natural nut butters (more on that here). In case you need a recap, here's the top three reasons why Pip & Nut will never use palm oil.
Deforestation.
Indonesia, where carbon rich peatlands are destroyed to make space for palm plantations, is now the third highest emitter of greenhouse gases.Destruction
of biodiverse habitat belonging to already endangered species like Orangutan, pygmy elephant & Sumatran rhino.Questionable supply chain ethics
including reported forced labour & child exploitation.Read more here.
Let's give every label a closer look.
